Films: Djamel's Eyes
Djamel and Paco are recovering from a shipwreck in an Italian hospital. They share the same room and they both are very different from each other, with a completely opposite view of the world. As Paco is not able to move from his bed, Djamel describes to him all the beautiful things he sees through the window: the sea, the beach, the fishermen….
With a bit of time and talking, they both realize that they are not as different from each other as they initially thought, until destiny knocks on the door…
Djamel's Eyes was shot in December 2004 and released in London in March 2005. It was selected for the official section of many festivals worldwide and it won different awards. Among others, it won the Inspiration Award given by the European Commission, the Tamashii Award at the Con-Can Movie Festival of Tokyo, Japan, and the Special Jury Award at the Kimera Cineclub Film Festival of Termoli in Italy.
Partially funded by the European Commission and with private investment, the film is a minimalist portrait of two different worlds divided by ethnic, language, religious and cultural differences. It tries to isolate the principle of mutual respect as the simple and most effective solution to those differences.
